Friday, October 23rd from 5-8 p.m.
(ST. LOUIS) – Duane Reed Gallery proudly presents the intricate oil paintings of Nancy Newman Rice. This exhibition opens Friday, October 23rd, with a reception that evening from 5 - 8 pm, and will be on display through December 12th.
Nancy Newman Rice was born in New York City and was educated at Cornell University and at Washington University, where she earned a BFA with honors and an MFA. She has received awards that include a National Endowment for the Arts/MMA Fellowship for painting, and nominations for a Tiffany Award and an AVA Award in the Visual Arts. Ms. Rice has exhibited her work internationally and has had a number of solo exhibits in both galleries and museums. Rice states about her work: “In my paintings, the viewer observes but does not enter as the confusion of space is meant for contemplation rather than adventure...My influences...extend to architectural drawings, the girders of anticipated buildings and especially scaffolding that fills those spaces. They are skeletons and place holders which define spatial containment, and are evidence of the sacred geometry that is the armature of empirical experience.” Rice’s work is deeply experiential, utilizing overlaid images that provide the viewer with a hypnotizing perspective; her paintings transcend time as one is able to view progression from conception to finalization as a singular moment.
Gallery Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10 - 5pm.
