Our December artist is Tiffany Howard who is relatively new to MySLArt but has already shown in a couple of our 33 shows. Most of the work she has shared is macro photography. Her work stood out to me because of the bold colors and lines which isn’t what you usually think of in macro. She won the Visitor’s Choice award sponsored by Shirt Kong at the 33 October show.
In talking with her about her work, Tiffany explained that she plans her shots and spends the time editing to be sure to get the look she wants for her final images. Here is a little bit about Tiffany in her own words.
I was born in St. Louis on November 13, 1979.
I was raised by my mom and am the second oldest of four children.
I have a cat named Shadow.
I have 5 nieces and nephews ranging in ages from 11mths-4yrs old...whew!
My camera of choice:
I currently shoot with a Canon Rebel T3.
Although I've made the switch to digital, my favorite camera will always be my Minolta 35mm film.
My involvement with MySLArt:
I was looking for a forum where I could gain some insight and wisdom from other local artists who had experience with showcasing their work. I was searching online and stumbled across MySLArt. It was a great find, and I've learned so much already.
In the short time that I've been affiliated with MySLArt, I've learned to believe in my craft and not to sell myself short. Believe in me first and foremost that I am an artist, and others will see it too!
My start in photography:
I fell in love with photography as a junior in HS after taking a photojournalism class. I was always a shy, introverted child, and I was able to find 'my voice' behind the lens.
My style of photography is mainly macro. I enjoy taking small objects and turning them into larger than life pieces of art. I also love shooting food!
The best advice I would share with a young photographer is to study your craft and have an openness to learn from others that are veterans in the field of photography. Never be afraid to share your gift with world! Art binds us all together! Share your voice through visual art!
