Basil Kincaid + Know Yourself Group Exhibition Opening

On Friday, January 22nd from 7 to 10pm, we open two new exhibitions: Basil Kincaid, "The Reclamation 2" in the entry gallery and group exhibition "Know Yourself" in the main gallery.

// Entry Gallery
In Reclamation 2, Basil Kincaid filters technological waste through the lens of Ghanaian and African American folk art practices exploring the duality of his African and American Identity. With interest in communication and cultural identity, Reclamation 2 investigates the role of the internet in the production of culture and performance of self through the use of prepaid telecom scratch cards.

// Main Gallery
Know Yourself is a ghostwritten group exhibition exploring unstable circulations among authenticity and ownership. Know Yourself features Conrad Bakker, Chris Bradley, Marianne Laury, Eva and Franco Mattes, Edra Soto, Julia Weist and other uncredited authors presenting borrowed multiples, recontextualized readymades, gouache paintings of empty stages, karaoke overtures and an attempted takeover of an artist's search results.

The Luminary's exhibitions are supported in part by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Missouri Arts Council - a state agency, Regional Arts Commission, the Arts and Education Council and our generous members and supporters. theluminaryarts.com
