First Name
Philly Alex
Last Name:
Johnmeyer
Zip Code:
63146
I am an:
Artist, Art Professional, Art Supporter
If an artist/art student, my primary medium or mixed media is:
Painting, Photography, Drawing, Jewelry
About Me:
I started my company, Super Keen Creations, LLC in 2009, working from my home studio in Saint Louis, selling my artwork, original jewelry and photography. I create mostly commissioned pieces for individuals and businesses, working with my customers to combine my style with their vision. Also, I am excited to have shown my work in several local galleries. My styles include expressionism, modern impressionism and abstractionism. The paintings I create are a vibrant translation of my world, and I love to incorporate symbolism into the colors and subject matters I choose. I like working with acrylic, watercolor, chalk, oil pastel, colored pencil, and graphite. But, most of all, I enjoy combining acrylic paint with modeling paste or gel medium to create highly textural pieces. They're not quite sculptures, but not just paintings. I get such enjoyment when someone sees one of my textured paintings for the first time and I say, "Touch it!" Almost always they'll hesitate and ask, "Are you sure it's okay?" And I just smile, waiting with glee for them to respond, "Oooooh… cool."

I feel a simultaneous rush of frenzy and calm when I'm working on a project, and receive such satisfaction when it all comes together. That swish of paint on canvas… that moment when I've found the right angle and light for a photograph… that moment I can see the design of a bracelet click into place. Those moments are the reason I do it all: that spark, that drive, that little voice that whispers, "So boss, what're we doing today?!"

I am so thankful that I have been given the opportunity to share my artistic passion with the world. I’d like to thank my fans, clients, friends and family for their interest and encouragement... and sometimes, inspiration.

December Blog Post by Curator, Philly Alex Johnmeyer

I’ll scratch your back.

Being curator and a volunteer for Myslart has given me a great opportunity to meet so many friendly people: other artists, gallery owners, collectors, and the friends and family who support us creatives in our many artistic adventures. I’ve been a part of the St. Louis art community for 8 years now, and was welcomed with open arms. I’ve had people ask if St. Louis is very competitive, or…

The password is: VOICE.

So let’s talk about something. That word. THE WORD, that from the moment you begin to consider yourself a true artist, PLAGUES you, DRIVES you, comes POURING OUT of you… because we ALL have a voice. No matter WHAT you CREATE: art, music, fashion, architecture, graphic design, WORDS that tell a message, film, floral design, interior design, choreography, photography… I could go on and on…

First Blog from Philly Alex Johnmeyer, Our New Curator

And so… if we are to start, I feel we should start at the beginning. March 2013, it was my third time showing my art, at a Craig Downs production entitled “Night Gallery.” Craig was kind enough to take me under his wing, and to let me help him install the art. I was eager to learn anything…
