If an artist/art student, my primary medium or mixed media is:
Nate McClain (1973 -1997) is a St Louis MO visual artist best known for his large-scale murals which have gained posthumous acclaim.
At age 4, Nate became a published artist when his Happy Birthday Card (1978) was sold at national retailers as part of Hello Studio's Children's Art Collection. His passion for art continued as a student by winning awards and earning a BFA in Illustration from Southwest Missouri State University. His distinctive style was influenced by artists Walt Disney, Bob Ross, Jim Davis, Steve Ditko, & Derek Riggs. Nate, an only child, was 20 when his mother Lynn passed away from cancer which profoundly impacted him with his art having harsher themes & darker colors. He was an active freelance artist in St. Louis MO holding group art exhibits and being commissioned for large scale murals before his tragic passing at age 24 in 1997.
Posthumously, the Nathan McClain Gallery opened in 2003 where private collectors crowd-curate his artwork and share his life story. Grassroots crowdsourcing efforts have saved his 16' by 8' Ultimate Sports mural from demolition, attempted to locate Ozzie Smith Retires (still missing), and organized a solo Art exhibit of Nate's work. He has gained an international following from the Museums & the Web International Conference, his art on international magazine cover, and thru social media engagement. His life and artistic legacy continues to resonate and inspire.
