About Me:
I'm a St. Louis artist interested in the experimental and the journalistic sides of photography.

With journalism, one has a duty to capture things as they are. But there's the rub; no matter what you do, the story is simply a composite of perspectives guided by one's own. So to be true to the story is to be true to one's perception of it, and that's where every journalist's responsibility lays; that's the line to walk.

As far as art goes, fuck it. I screw around to make something I think is cool. Then if it really works, it's something that the viewer can attach his or her own perception to in order to come up with the final artistic product. Everything in art is a remix lest it be an exact material replica, so it only makes sense that the final step of art is for someone to view a photograph as the photographer viewed their subject: in accordance to their own perception. What I wanted it to be is nice, but what someone else sees in it is actually what completes it.

They're not that different, journalism and art. Both seek to evoke feelings through the recording of a scene, and both have power from the skill that was involved in their creation. Hamfist a work of art and you leave people cold; capture an event dryly and you take away the inhumanity of an atrocity and the glory from a triumph.

Art is journalism; experience as viewed through the lens of experience.
