I am an:
Artist, Art Professional
If an artist/art student, my primary medium or mixed media is:
Sculpture, Video, Fiber Arts
About Me:
I'm an artist, writer, and stay-at-home-mom. This year, in my artwork, I am exploring humor's transformative abilities while utilizing traditional craft techniques such as crochet and cross stitch in sculptural ways.
If you're an artist/art student, don't forget to add a brief artist's statement and photos of three of your art works to either your "comment wall" or "text box." This is your basic St. Louis Art Directory information. Later you may add images, videos, post a blog, and much more.
Erika Swinson, growing up an “Army Brat” and aspiring inventor, came up with creative ways to entertain herself and cope with always being the new kid in school. Her current work draws from these early experiences as the outsider, experimenting with dress, materials, identity, and adjusting to various environments. Erika received her BFA in sculpture from the University of Georgia, and her MFA in new media from Penn State University. She is a writer and an interdisciplinary artist exhibiting in the United States, online, and abroad. Ever the devil's advocate, Erika's projects tamper with the details of naturalized social systems, undermining the everyday to provoke thoughtful debate and transformative laughter.
