Advice on Portfolios & Gallery Representation

This group is set up as an open forum for STL area artists to get together and talk about what strategies have worked and have not. Ideas regarding portfolios, artist statements, biographies, how to talk with collectors. Helping your fellow artists by giving your advice on your own personal experiences. This is not the group to promote your artwork. Any derogatory comments will be immediately removed. Play nicely.

This workshop will be lead by Jenny Churchill, a STL painter herself, who has produced numerous group juried art shows. The experience gained from working with hundreds of artists of all disciplines and establishing a nonprofit organization with monthly art shows, she understands all of the troubles and common hesitations that artists experience when it comes to showing their work publically.  The workshop will assist you with exhibiting from start to finish. You will be given the necessary tools it takes to find how to correctly submit your work review, and what to expect after a sale, including everything in between. The workshop will include an overview of marketing, promoting, art installation, practical reception tips, and many other key tools for success! You will be given a synopsis as a guide to lead you and your future arts career on the correct path.

Agreed and with the binder they can actually hold it in their  hands and flip though, giving them more of a feeling of ownership! Rather than just using another device to scroll through your full body of work.

All of the above.   Curators have a variety of preferences.  If pressed to recommend one format, I would go with a binder style portfolio over a digital one.  Whatever gets your eye catching images in front of their eyes faster is best.

When approaching a gallery to seek representation rather than just sending in your portfolio via post and have it sit on the curators desk gathering dust - would you rather bring in a detachable page binder portfolio or digital "IPad style" portfolio?
